Our Walks

We cover the whole Auckland region and sometimes we go further afield -  to the Hunua and Kaimai ranges, Coromandel and Pirongia Forest Parks and, of course, the many bays north of Auckland, to Warkworth and beyond.
We usually hire a bus to get to the track, so you need to book a place on the bus in order to join a walk.

We may be tramping in the bush, along the coast, in regional parks, or we may do a heritage walk in the city or suburbs.

We seldom cancel a trip due to poor weather conditions.

An alternative may be substituted for the planned walk, if track or weather conditions make the original walk unsafe.
The walks are on alternate Sundays and the programme is planned for six months at a time.  Hard copies are available (please go to Contact Us), so you can book your trips in advance.  The description of each walk planned gives an indication of how hard or easy the walk is.  When the main walk is more challenging, an easier alternative is often available too.

These are guided walks and participants are expected to follow the Safety Rules when taking part.
Every trip has a designated leader and  a tail-ender appointed by the leader of the day.
Sometimes we have guest leaders with specialist knowledge.

The leader of a walk researches the area, identifies unusual plant and insect species present,  important trees and geological features.  They may also give us insights into an interesting historical background, thereby adding interest to the trip.
Leaders are supported by experienced members and always do a detailed reconnaissance prior to the trip.
The walks are usually 4 to 6 hours in total, with breaks for drinks, lunch, taking photos and "botanizing."

Bus
We normally use a chartered bus for our trips; for local trips  members can carpool using the three bus stops to meet others.
