Upcoming walks  2021

Planning is more uncertain in these Covid-19 times, and as in 2020, walks may need to be cancelled/postponed/rescheduled in line with Alert Levels.
Walks may also be changed for reasons of safety, due to track or weather conditions.

SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT
The Club does its best to provide safe trips.  However, all outdoor activities of this nature attract some risk.  You are responsible for your personal safety and your participation in trips acknowledges acceptance of this.

Unless otherwise specified, transport to all walks is by chartered bus.

(25 April - Volcanoes, a Basin and a Beach)  -   SORRY - This walk is cancelled and will now take place later in the year.

02 May -   Kakepuku Mountain, near Te Awamutu (rescheduled from February)
Early start south
Bus $40

Outstanding views over the Waikato landscape from the summit of this mountain – an old bush-covered volcanic cone and pa site.  We may spot North Island robins and the rare king fern.  Bonus - Lake Serpentine wetlands, site of the planned National Wetland Centre, on the way.

Leaders:  Fiona Kandziora & Christine Ford

16 May - Awhitu Peninsula - Lighthouse and Regional Park
Normal start south
Bus $40

This time we hope to visit the lighthouse at Manukau Heads, followed by some time at Awhitu Regional Park and Waiuku on the way home.  Always a good trip out to the peninsula. We will use a smaller bus so book early.  Suitable for all.
Leaders:  Anne Knight & Sharleen Bishop

30 May - Tahuna Torea Nature Reserve, Karaka Bay & More
Normal start south
Bus $25

The wetlands and sandspit of the Tahuna Torea Nature Reserve will be one of the highlights of this walk, which also includes Karaka Bay, one of the sites of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, plus the new walkway along the Tamaki River from Pt England to Panmure.   Suitable for all.
Leaders:  Lawrie Scott & Viv Roberts

13 June - Mt Richmond & the diversity of Otahuhu (rescheduled)
Carpool

Mt Richmond’s craters and impressive exotic trees, David Lange’s Memorial, the sacred Bodhi tree at a Lao Bhuddist temple, an early settlers’ cemetery and more – it’s an interesting mix of nature, culture and history in an ethnically diverse part of Auckland. Suitable for all.  More details about carpooling later.
Leaders: Fiona Kandziora & Viv Roberts

27 June - Out and about in Orewa (rescheduled)
Normal start north
Bus $25

We escape the city to enjoy meandering bush, beach and estuary trails, exploring the natural and historic significance of the area. Suitable for all.

Leaders:  Shirley Glendinning & Frankie Avison
