Safety
Enjoying the outdoors in safety is everyone's responsibility.
Fitness Check your fitness level against track conditions before booking a trip.
Footwear Good tramping boots or sturdy walking shoes with good tread are essential.
Pack You need to carry your own pack with water, energy snacks and food for lunch.
Clothing Wear comfortable clothing. Layers, including wool or thermals, are recommended.
You need a hat, gloves and good waterproof rainwear.
Bring spare shoes and warm dry clothing for the trip home.
Muddy boots are not permitted on the bus.
Medication You should carry any medication you need, plus your own personal first aid supplies.
The trip leader should know of any medical condition which may affect your fitness.
The club will also have at least one basic first aid kit on all walks and a personal locator beacon (PLB).
Safety The group must stay together behind the leader and in front of the tail-ender. Do not leave
the group for any reason without notifying the leader or the tail-ender.
Convey all messages of danger/trip hazards/slippery surface to those behind you.
If you bring a friend you are responsible for ascertaining their ability to complete the walk, ensuring that they know the above rules and are properly equipped.
